I went to Dulwich Village for the purpose of reviewing another cafe, but Ben wanted to drop into Gail's as he'd heard good things about their bread.

We never made it to the other cafe. All it took was one look at the carrot cake with generously layered butter-cream icing tiers to put all thoughts of other cafes out of my mind.

A quick perusal of the large central table at the front of the store (with its
incredibly tempting assortment of goodies laid out on its surface) confirmed our decision to stay. Leaving without eating was not an option.
This is my artistic angled lighting shot.
The day we visited was about as good as it gets in autumnal London. Clear blue skies, golden leaves, crisp refreshing air. Little wonder every man, woman, child and dog was out and about in Dulwich. Getting a table in Gail's proved slightly challenging, but my persistence paid off.

This place is understandably popular. The decor is simple but stylish. The staff are friendly and helpful. The customers are the sort of people you'd like to live next door to. I couldn't fault it.

The cakes are excellent as well.

That's a lot of butter cream icing. It's not a bad thing.
And for some reason, tea tastes better coming from a red teapot. One of the mysteries of the universe I think.

Like the Terminator, we'll definitely be back. Gail's hasn't see the last of us.

And next time we might even buy some of their famous bread.
