Have you ever been to a French
restaurant (not in France) where staff put on fake French accents for the
dubious benefit of their customers? I have. It doesn't fool anyone.
Thankfully, this will not happen to
you at Au Ciel.
Au Ciel is positioned in the
respectable leafy suburb of Dulwich Village on the corner of a frequently
congested round-about that becomes clogged up on weekends with harrowed parents
ferrying their children to and from various extra-curricular activities.
The seating inside is a little
"intimate" as the cafe has a small footprint, but there are pretty
wrought-iron tables and chairs outside if you are in need of fresh air and more
space.
Ooh la la, how very French. |
There are always tempting treats on
offer at Au Ciel, although their cake selection (in the traditional sense) is not
particularly extensive.
Au Ciel wears many hats - cafe,
patissiere and chocolatier. While you may find the ubiquitous cafe staples of
carrot cake or coffee & walnut cake, they also have a selection of
viennoiseries as well as goodies such as mille feuilles and giant macarons (the
chocolate one is particularly tasty) plus artisan chocolates.
This place is a solid performer and
is my go-to cafe whenever I'm ever in need a "French fix" without
leaving the UK.
À bientôt!
