Au Ciel (SE21 7DE)

1a Calton Ave, London SE21 7DE

Have you ever been to a French restaurant (not in France) where staff put on fake French accents for the dubious benefit of their customers? I have. It doesn't fool anyone.

Thankfully, this will not happen to you at Au Ciel.

Au Ciel is positioned in the respectable leafy suburb of Dulwich Village on the corner of a frequently congested round-about that becomes clogged up on weekends with harrowed parents ferrying their children to and from various extra-curricular activities.

The seating inside is a little "intimate" as the cafe has a small footprint, but there are pretty wrought-iron tables and chairs outside if you are in need of fresh air and more space.

Ooh la la, how very French.
There are always tempting treats on offer at Au Ciel, although their cake selection (in the traditional sense) is not particularly extensive.

Au Ciel wears many hats - cafe, patissiere and chocolatier. While you may find the ubiquitous cafe staples of carrot cake or coffee & walnut cake, they also have a selection of viennoiseries as well as goodies such as mille feuilles and giant macarons (the chocolate one is particularly tasty) plus artisan chocolates.

This place is a solid performer and is my go-to cafe whenever I'm ever in need a "French fix" without leaving the UK.

À bientôt!
